William Butler Yeats is widely considered to be one of the greatest poets of the 20th century. He belonged to the Protestant, Anglo-Irish minority that had controlled the economic, political, social, and cultural life of Ireland since at least the end of the 17th century. Most members of this minority considered themselves English people who happened to have been born in Ireland, but Yeats.
As you read, William Butler Yeats, keep in mind he wrote about his time, his life. Things and people who impressed or irritated him, places he saw, his thoughts on what was said about him, about mysticism and spiritualism. Mainly, he wrote for himself and a small amount of people.
Jack Butler Yeats (1871-1957) is considered by many to be the most important Irish artist of the 20th century. Like his brother, the poet William Butler Yeats, Jack Yeats was a key figure in the Celtic Revival movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Jack Yeats is best known for his long and prolific career in the visual arts, but he also wrote novels, essays, and plays.
Letters to Yeats are grouped together in a single folder and a lively correspondence between Yeats and Thomas Sturge Moore carried out between 1901 and 1936, is present at the end of the series. Series III is made up of works and correspondence from members of the Yeats family, including Elizabeth Corbet, Georgie Lees, Jack Butler, John Butler, and Lily.
